Matthew Balmuth graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 2005, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Economics with provost's honors. From 2005 to 2010, Mr. Balmuth worked in the construction industry as a cost estimator for general contractors and subcontractors, where he was in charge of putting together bid packages for multi-million dollar commercial and residential projects. In 2010, he applied to law school and was offered a Wildman-Schumacher full tuition scholarship to Southwestern Law School. During law school, Mr. Balmuth received Witkin and Cali awards for academic excellence in legal writing and research. He also actively participated in the Moot Court Honors Program, where he performed as an oralist and writer at national competitions. While attending law school, he also worked as a legal intern at the Vail Center for Immigrant Rights, Ulich & Terry, L.L.P., and the Mesriani Law Group. Mr. Balmuth earned his law degree from Southwestern Law School and was admitted to the California Bar in 2013, and is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Central District of California.
Mr. Balmuth has previously practiced as an employment and personal injury attorney, and has experience working in construction defect cases. His current areas of practice include personal injury defense, bad faith insurance defense, and general civil litigation.
